Scholarly Interests

Education

I am an interdisciplinary public scholar whose work is rooted in astronomy and its social contexts. I study ethical issues in space exploration, stellar magnetic activity, how stars influence a planet's suitability as a host for alien life, and use machine learning to discover unusual events in large astronomical data sets. I also work towards social justice in the sciences and beyond, and use popular communication to foster knowledgable, empowered publics.
