Making Values-Based Decisions for Your Career

This workshop helped me to identify the things that motivate me and articulate what is important for me to prioritize in my work moving forward.

Making Values-Based Decisions for Your Career is a mini-workshop to help you make big moves! Feeling overwhelmed by decision fatigue? Struggling to choose your next step in work or life? All your plans fell through and you need to make a shift, but you’re not sure what?

This self-directed, independent study format mini-workshop offers students a chance to work through a series of prompts and exercises to identify their core values, and apply them towards making value-aligned career decisions. It can either be taken solo, or with the option to share, discuss, and get feedback from the community of students also taking the class (and you don’t have to decide which when you register!). Students can work through the course material at their own pace over the course of two weeks, and no live attendance is required.
See below for more details, including cost and financial assistance options!

How it works:

The upcoming Making Values-Based Decisions for Your Career is an independent study, and runs over two weeks (click on the Registration button to see currently available dates!). Students must register by the scheduled start date, but have the full two-week period in which to work through the prompts and exercises. While the workshop is in session, a Discord server will be available for community sharing, cheering each other on, and asking Lucianne questions about the course material. The time commitment is somewhat dependent on how long you want to spend on the exercises, but is approximately a few hours (which you can distribute across your schedule however you like!).

Who it’s for:

Making Values-Based Decisions for Your Career is for anyone feeling stuck or struggling with job-related decisions, especially if you would like to spend some time thinking deeply about how your values and goals relate to your work. This mini-workshop is based on the popular “Choose Your Own Adventure” essay written by Lucianne Walkowicz, which was aimed at junior academics, but the materials for this workshop are designed to be accessible and helpful to anyone, no matter their job or stage in life.

Who it’s not for:

This workshop is an independent study, with the option to interact with other participants who are working through the same exercises. While I will be available for questions about the materials and moderating the Discord community, this is not a course where you will receive personalized instructor feedback and interaction. This course is also not a branding or marketing workshop— rather, it aims to help you build your own framework for making decisions grounded in your values. Last but not least, I am not a therapist (and even if I was, this class is not therapy!): if you are facing a crisis that calls for personalized and professional guidance, this course is not the place to get that level of help (though some of its offerings may still be useful to you).

What all’s in it:

Making Values-Based Decisions for Your Career consists of five sections, each of which contain guided exercises:

  1. Identifying your core values

  2. Looking at where your values come from and the stories you carry with you about them

  3. Writing a personal mission statement

  4. Defining your crossroads

  5. Applying your values and mission to make grounded decisions

What it costs:

Making Values-Based Decisions for Your Career is offered at $45. Discounted registration is available for those who are experiencing financial hardship or are on a really tight budget, just drop me a line here:

I took this course at a time when I was struggling to make job-related choices after a career change, and found Lucianne provided an excellent map to help me navigate through my own values, mission, and decisions. I feel more grounded and certain of my own next steps.

Dr Walkowicz created a very welcoming and encouraging environment for us to reflect on our values and career decisions. This workshop came at a great time for me and helped me decide on the career path that best aligned with my personal values.
